Born in Mexico City, Diego Torre was a Domingo-Thornton Young Artist at Los Angeles Opera, where he made his company debut as Don José in Carmen. In his debut season with Wolf Trap Opera Company, he sang Conte Ivrea in Un giorno di regno, Captain in Candide, and Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos. Mr. Torre’s 2025-2026 season includes Don José in Carmen with Opera Australia and a concert presentation of Edgar with Minnesota Opera.
Mr. Torre has performed over two dozen roles with Opera Australia including Cavaradossi, Don José, Foresto, Faust, Eléazar, Radamès, Turiddu, Canio, Calaf, Pinkerton, Edgardo, Rodolfo, Riccardo, the Duke, Gabriele Adorno, Don Carlo, and Ernani. Career highlights include Radames (Aida) with Boston Lyric Opera, Calaf (Turandot) and Canio (Pagliacci) with Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Verdi’s Requiem and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 for Sydney Philharmonia. As Canio in Pagliacci with Seattle Opera, The Seattle Times reported, “Torre’s performance was remarkable for its depth and nuance, as well as its heft and power throughout an imposing upper register. His showstopping aria, ‘Vesti la giubba’ is one of the all-time great moments for tenor, and Torre took full advantage of its expressive opportunities.” The artist has also appeared with The Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Queensland Symphony, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Teatro Regio di Torino, Anhaltisches Theatre Dessau, and Savonlinna Opera Festival.
Mr. Torre holds passports from Australia and Mexico, and is a Permanent Resident of the United States.
