Adam Flatt

Conductor

Adam Flatt, conductor, enjoys a prominent and versatile musical presence in three different regions of the United States. In Denver, he serves as Music Director of the Colorado Ballet. He also leads the Newport Symphony Orchestra (the Oregon coast’s professional orchestra), and the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Flatt is a native of Sacramento, California, where he graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. He began violin studies at the age of five with Margaret Heilbron.

Adam Flatt’s professional career began in Portland, Oregon as an apprentice conductor with the Oregon Symphony and Maestro James DePreist. Later, Marin Alsop invited him to move to Denver and join the Colorado Symphony as Associate Conductor, where in a five-year tenure he conducted over 250 performances with the orchestra including classical subscription and many special event performances including live broadcasts for radio and television. He also created and hosted family and educational concerts that reached tens of thousands of children and families in the region. Mr. Flatt also served a highly acclaimed tenure as Music Director of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, and returned many summers to lead productions with Emerald City Opera (now Opera Steamboat), a festival in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Adam Flatt has guest conducted the symphony orchestras of Alabama, Cheyenne, Dallas, Delaware, Houston, Lubbock, Midland, Missoula, Monterey, Oregon, Riverside, Sacramento, Saint Louis, San Juan, Santa Rosa, South Carolina, West Virginia, and many others. He has led performances with the major ballet companies of Portland and Salt Lake City as well as that of Denver, and productions for Colorado Light Opera, Eugene Opera, and Colorado Symphony co-productions with Central City Opera and Opera Colorado. He has enjoyed collaborations with a great diversity of solo artists such as pianist Alicia de Larrocha, violinist Rachel Barton Pine, violinist Johnny Gandelsman, and singers Judy Collins and Art Garfunkel.

Mr. Flatt has his bachelor’s degree with honors in music from the University of California at Berkeley, and his master’s degree in conducting from the Indiana University School of Music. He studied in Vienna, Austria and Saarbrücken, Germany, as well as at the Aspen Music Festival. His many mentors include Michael Neumann, Michael Morgan, Max Pommer, Imre Palló, Murry Sidlin, and Marin Alsop.

Currently In
